A tipper is constructed out of a trough and chassis. It is pulled by a tractor and therefore does not have its own drive. With the help of this design, materials suitable for dumping, such as rubble and earth, can simply be taken, transported and unloaded at their destination. In agriculture, tippers are used in numerous areas of work, whether it be for sowing or for various transport operations from the farm to cropland. Tippers are also important work equipment in gardening and landscaping.
Depending on the size of the tipper, the tipping procedure is done by a hydraulic drive lift system or by levers and cables. The latter is especially the case in trucks of up to a medium size. The hydraulic lift system is controlled either by the engine of the tractor or by an integrated battery in the truck.
Dump trucks can differ fundamentally in their design. In addition to single, double and multi axle trucks, there are also tandem axle dump trucks. Single axel tippers operate, as the name suggests, on one axle. The single axel tipper is therefore equipped with two wheels and the corresponding tow bar. It is partially lighter in construction than other forms of tippers. The double axel dump truck, however, has four wheels and two axles. Above all, the towing vehicle and the permissible tensile load are decisive for the use of a particular type of dump truck.
Furthermore, tippers differ in design by their tilting direction. Independent from the construction (single, multi axle dump truck etc.), there is also a distinction between corner and three side dump trucks. Depending on the design, the trucks are therefore referred to as dump trucks or 3 side dump trucks. These can be fitted with extended sides to transport larger loads and materials easily and safely.
Three side tippers are characterized by their high flexibility, which is guaranteed through the changeable stop joints and the sidewalls that are foldable in three directions. This allows the contents of the trough of the dump truck to be emptied effectively in three different directions (backwards, to the right and to the left). In addition, the side walls can be constructed in two parts so that, when required, only half of each side wall needs to be folded open. This is especially handy for slow emptying operations.
In contrast, the advantage of the one-sided tilting dump trucks is that they can accommodate a higher load capacity. This is mainly due to the construction of the tipper, as it can withstand a larger compressive stress. They also have deep troughs, which facilitates a larger load volume.
