Balers
These days, driving in and storing hay and straw is no longer an onerous human task. Straw, hay and silage are compressed with the aid of modern balers and can be transported and handled more effectively. Space-saving storage is also highly efficient with modern square and round bales. On tractorpool.co.uk you'll find round balers, square balers and high-pressure balers second hand at used machine prices. The product range spans the latest models to lovingly-maintained small balers from previous decades. Discover the different types of baler and buy your baler on tractorpool.
Round or square? The shape matters
Since the seventies, the small baler has been squeezed out of the market. Large agricultural businesses in particular now rely instead on square and round balers. The square balers are the big brothers of the formerly common high-pressure balers: they are just as compact in shape, but much heavier and larger. Round balers work with variable or fixed chambers; the variable version allows the size of the bales produced to be changed. The weight of square bales is significantly higher than that of round bales. These in turn are based on a simple technique: inside, the hay or straw is rolled up and compressed into a convenient round shape. Round balers are particularly popular for silo production: the round bale is wrapped in film using wrapping technology and can then be easily stored until use. A silo bale of this kind can tip the scales at up to 1000 kilos. Compared to this, the output of the high-pressure balers is almost miniscule: but the old small balers still have their uses today. A small bale weighs around 15 kilos. Horse owners, hobby farmers and small animal owners appreciate the convenient size. These bales can be moved without a front loader or forklift truck - that's why these "little" balers are still available.
Claas, Krone or Case? The best balers, yesterday and today
Since the first square baler was launched in 1978, there has been a lot of movement in the market. Among the leading suppliers of balers are claas balers, krone balers and John Deere balers. Silo bales are wrapped with wrapping machines or combination baler-wrappers. For steep terrain there are models with slope compensation and lowerable cutting floors - such as the Claas Rollant 400 Uniwrap baler-wrapper. Looking for a small baler? Discover older models such as the "Fortschritt" baler from the eighties, or small balers from Welger. Massey Ferguson supplies state-of-the-art big balers and round balers with fixed or variable chambers. With the MF 1840 baler, Massey Ferguson continues to offer a modern small-format baler.
